The situation has stabilized a bit, after our calamitous water leak on Sunday 6/27. Most of the library remains fine to work in. All books, periodicals and recordings are available for use and unaffected by the leak.
The valiant Conservation staff of the Libraries, assisted by outside specialists in preservation and disaster recovery, helped us to identify and send for treatment any materials which needed intervention. Facilities staff are working closely with us to repair infrastructure damage.
As of today, Tue 6/29, the area of shelving affected has been cordoned off for drying out. Music staff will retrieve any scores you may need from this area, which comprises music scores call numbers from 00 – 61. Miniature scores are unaffected, and all available. The Seminar and Viewing Rooms remain closed for the moment, as the carpeting dries out. Printing remains somewhat touch and go; residual dampness causes frequent paper jams, but we expect this to improve by Wed.
If you have questions about the availability of any music score, feel free to call us at 212-854-4711 or email us at musiclibrary@columbia.edu.
We hope to have all shelves and equipment in the library back to fully accessible by next week. Thanks for your patience while we work to restore full services.
