We are pleased to announce that the papers of federal judge Wilfred Feinberg have been processed and are open for research.

Judge Feinberg was nominated by President Kennedy in 1961 to serve as a district judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. In 1966, Judge Feinberg was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where he sat until his retirement in 2011. He presided as Chief Judge from 1980 through 1988, served on a number of important committees, and wrote more than one thousand judicial opinions.

We are excited to have Judge Feinberg's papers here at Columbia as he is an alumnus of both Columbia College (1940) and Columbia Law School (1946). He has been active in the Columbia University alumni community for the past seventy years, and always made sure to hire a fellow alum as one of his law clerks – including President Lee Bollinger.
