Sarai, Repository Metadata Intern in the Digital Internships Program

Q: Which library do you work at and what is your title?

I am the Repository Metadata Intern in the Digital Internships Program.

Q: What does your job entail?

I generally help out with assigned repository projects and often use Python to edit/collect data. I also create records in Hyacinth for various projects/reports and publish them to the Academic Commons.

Q: Could you describe your favorite part of working at the Libraries?

One of my favorite parts of working at the Libraries is the opportunity to learn new things when working on various projects. Whether it’s learning more about Python packages or seeing how much work and organization happens behind the scenes, I am glad to be a part of it.

Q: What is your area of study?

I am a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Robotics/Controls.

Q: Of the libraries on campus, which is your favorite place to study?

I like to study at the Business & Economics Library in Uris. I enjoy the social atmosphere, the study rooms, and the easily accessible outlets. I definitely recommend it for studying and Zoom meetings!

Q: What do you consider to be a “hidden gem” at the library where you work?

A hidden gem is realizing how much information is available in the Academic Commons. Through my work, I have explored the Academic Commons more and read through fascinating records that I otherwise would not have found.

Q: What book are you currently reading?

I am currently re-reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak to pass the time when commuting. I enjoy the descriptive language and writing style.
