Paper Pledge for the Planet

What is the Paper Pledge?

The Paper Pledge is a global collaboration of hundreds of institutions working together to make climate change literature openly available.

There are over 3500 climate change articles that have been published in the last 5 years that are closed access, but can be made openly available.

On 22 October 2024, COAR, EIFL, and their regional, national, and institutional partners – in collaboration with the Open Climate Campaign – launched a global effort to make this critical knowledge available to the world.

How can Columbia researchers participate?

Consider depositing one or more of your closed-access papers into Academic Commons, Columbia’s digital repository, which is run and managed by the Columbia Libraries.

If you’re not sure which version of your paper is appropriate to deposit, you can investigate by using the Sherpa Romeo database or by email ac@columbia.edu for assistance.

Thanks for joining this movement to make climate research more accessible to the world.
