New to PubMed Central: Journal of Clinical Education in Physical Therapy

The editors of the Journal of Clinical Education in Physical Therapy (JCEPT) and the Columbia Libraries Open Scholarship Services Unit are pleased to announce that JCEPT has been accepted for archiving in PubMed Central (or PMC), the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) open access fulltext archive of biomedical and life sciences literature. This means that JCEPT’s content from 2022 forward is searchable in PMC and is also discoverable in PubMed, the NLM’s widely used index of literature in medicine, health, and related topics.

Journals applying to be included in PMC are evaluated for scientific, editorial, and technical quality and must have published at least 25 peer-reviewed articles. JCEPT’s acceptance in PMC reflects the care, consistency, and high standards of the journal’s editors and staff in preparing original research for publication.

Founded in 2019, JCEPT is an open-access peer-reviewed journal disseminating scholarly evidence related to clinical education and facilitating professional development among the physical therapy clinical and academic faculty of the future. The journal is based at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center and published in partnership with the Columbia University Libraries. The Editors-in-Chief are Christopher Kevin Wong, PT, PhD, MS, and Jean Fitzpatrick, PT, PhD, MHS, Professors of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine (Physical Therapy). Dr. Wong said:

“The Columbia Libraries staff anticipated what JCEPT could be and what we would need to get indexed before we as editors did, thereby setting us on course from the start. We really appreciate all the subsequent technical work that extends well beyond our knowledge base and know-how and made PMC indexing a reality.”

The Columbia University Libraries supports the creation, discovery, and dissemination of open-access research by providing technical publishing support and covering hosting and related costs for over 30 scholarly journals through the Journal Publishing Program, podcasts through the Podcast Publishing Program and the institutional repository, Academic Commons. Esther Jackson, Head of Open Scholarship for Columbia Libraries said:

“We are thrilled for Dr. Fitzpatrick, Dr. Wong and their colleagues at JCEPT. Indexing in PubMed Central is a great achievement, and one that we in the Libraries were glad to support. This milestone is the result of a close collaboration of exceptional editorial oversight and scholarly infrastructure expertise.”
