Where’s the data? Celebrating Love Data Week 2026

It’s time for everyone’s favorite February holiday. Of course, we are talking about Love Data Week (February 9-13), a program from ICPSR. Institutions from around the world are offering workshops, lectures, and more that center on this year’s theme of “Where’s the data?”

Love Data Week events at Columbia

Here at Columbia, we are offering these Love Data Week events:

  • LabArchives Love Data Week 2026 (virtual) is a weeklong series of events dedicated to helping you improve the organization of your data while taking steps towards better overall data management through LabArchives electronic research notebooks. Columbia affiliates can access LabArchives by following these instructions.
  • Introduction to working with data in OpenRefine (virtual)
    Wednesday, February 11, 2026 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
    OpenRefine is a powerful free, open source tool for working with messy data: cleaning it; transforming it from one format into another; and extending it with web services and external data.
  • Data Club: Open Source GIS: Intro to Visualization and Cartography (Lehman Library)
    Wednesday, February 11, 2026 4:10 PM – 5:20 PM
  • An R Refresher: Exploring Files and Dataframes with the Tidyverse (Butler Library)
    Thursday, February 12, 2026 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
    If you’ve used R before but aren’t yet an expert, need a refresher, or want to level up your skills, this hands-on, interactive workshop is for you. Through practical examples, we’ll explore how to use R effectively with the tidyverse package to make data analysis, visualization, and working with tables and dataframes more intuitive and fun.
